About Me

I’m Thomas L.A. Heil, I recently defended my PhD in Empirical Finance and Econometrics at Zeppelin University, located near the scenic Lake Constance in southern Germany.

My academic journey began at the University of Regensburg, where I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics, with a strong focus on econometrics and empirical economic research. At Zeppelin University, my research centers on applied machine learning in the context of financial equity market data. I’m particularly interested in how these modern techniques, on their own or in combination with classical statistical methods, can be used to address complex and otherwise cumbersome problems. At the same time, I’m always keen to explore new research areas to deepen my understanding of how these methods can be applied effectively across different contexts.

I firmly believe that reproducibility and knowledge transfer should be core values in empirical research. This belief was a major motivation behind building this homepage, where I plan to share code snippets and resources to make it easier for others to understand and replicate my results.

At the same time, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of maintaining balance outside academia. Living near Lake Constance offers not only a beautiful setting for research but also an inspiring environment for recharging. In recent years, cycling and traveling have become essential parts of my life. Exploring new landscapes, cultures, and quiet backroads on two wheels gives me fresh perspectives, both personally and professionally.

This website reflects both sides of my life: a space to share research, code, ideas, and new concepts, as well as to collect memories, photos, and experiences. Whether you’re here to learn more about my work or simply browsing, I invite you to explore and connect.
